Plural. History, Culture, Society, 12(2)
Abstract
The paper investigates how video games and gamified applications are being used to promote and preserve cultural heritage in Italy. The authors examine the integration of digital tools — augmented reality, virtual reality, and educational games — into museum strategies, showing how they create interactive and immersive experiences that broaden audience participation.
Through a series of case studies and current research, the article discusses the impact of these initiatives on community engagement and the long-term sustainability of heritage preservation, and reflects on both the challenges and opportunities of the digital transformation of cultural institutions in the Italian context.
